Where the Weil's Story Began

Weil's Clothing opened under the leadership of David and Isadore Weil in May of 1879 on the south side of the courthouse square in Clarinda, Iowa.

A Growing Clarinda Business

In the mid-1890s, the store moved into the Hawley Opera Building, where it remained for approximately 50 years. During the early 20th century, Weil's Clothing incorporated and expanded, becoming one of the largest and finest men's clothing stores in the Midwest.

Moving to 114 North 16th Street

In 1947, Weil's Clothing moved up the block to its current location at 114 North 16th Street on the west side of the courthouse square.

Expanding to Women's Fashion

In 1977, the current location was enlarged into a double storefront, and women's clothing was introduced, beginning another important chapter in the Weil's story.

A New Generation of Ownership

In January 2017, Larry and Shira Bridie retired after 47 years of ownership. Jamie Shore took over ownership and continues the tradition of providing clothing, accessories and fine jewelry for men and women.

One of Clarinda's Oldest Businesses

Weil's Clothing is the second-oldest operating business in Clarinda, Iowa. Only PCSB — Page County State Bank — predates Weil's.

Today, Weil's Clothing & Fine Jewelry continues to evolve while staying true to the personal service and community connection that have defined the business since 1879.
